Vol. 64 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Appeal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state why unemployment assistance has been withdrawn from Dominick McBride, of Meenaniller, Gweedore, County Donegal, and when his appeal against the raising of the assessment of his means by 2/- will be heard.

Dominick McBride is not entitled to receive unemployment assistance for the reason that the value of his means determined in accordance with the Unemployment Assistance Acts exceeds by more than 1/- the rate of unemployment assistance applicable to his case. His appeal against the weekly rate of his means was considered and determined by an appeals officer on the 15th July, 1936, and he was duly notified of this determination.

Is there a further appeal from the decision of the appeals officer?

There is no further appeal.

That is the final appeal?

There is of course an appeals committee which determines questions of interpretation of the law and to which appeals can be made with the permission of the appeals officer, but in a matter of the kind referred to in the question the final appeal lies with the appeals officer.
