asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of persons normally employed in the building trades (setting out separately the figures for each craft and for builders' labourers) who were registered as unemployed in the first week in October, 1936.

The numbers of persons normally employed in the building trades, appearing on the live register during the first week in October, 1936, were as follows:—Carpenters, 456; bricklayers, 26; masons, 194; plasterers and tilers, 35; painters, 513; plumbers and glaziers, 118; builders' labourers, 3,250, making a total of 4,592.

So there is no scarcity of unskilled labour in the building trades?

That is a separate question.
