Vol. 65 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration Problem.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether so long as immigration into Commonwealth countries is open to Irish nationals on the same basis as British subjects elsewhere, he will take a full share in Imperial Conferences dealing with problems of Empire migration.

The aim of the Irish Government is not to provide facilities for the emigration of our people to the States of the British Commonwealth or elsewhere. Its aim is to concentrate on utilising the resources of this country and so improving the conditions of life here that our people will not have to emigrate, but will be able to find a livelihood in their own country.
