Vol. 65 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage by Sea at Lahinch.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the damage recently done by the sea at Lahinch shows that the threat from the sea to this popular seaside resort is increasing, and that it threatens the destruction of the livelihood of a large number of people, and if he will state whether he will set up a special committee to inquire into the matter with a view to seeing what steps should be taken and what finances allotted to safeguard the village and the interests of the local inhabitants.

No recent representations in regard to this matter have been received in my Department. I have no power to appoint a special committee as suggested.

Mr. Burke

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I should like to know is he aware that the County Surveyor for Co. Clare made a statement that, in his opinion, Lahinch will be washed away if steps are not taken to prevent such a thing happening?

I am not aware of it.
