Vol. 66 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition (County Galway).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made in connection with the acquisition of the Hoade estate, Annagh, Ballyglunin, County Galway, and when this estate will be divided for the relief of local congestion.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have under consideration the question of the acquisition of portion of the lands of Annagh, on the estate of Mrs. Delia Hoade, but at the present stage of the proceedings it is not possible to state whether, or when, the lands may be acquired and divided.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what is the present position regarding the acquisition of the Burke estate, Toghermore, Tuam, County Galway; whether this estate has been acquired, and, if not, whether its acquisition will be expedited to relieve congestion existing in the area.

Mr. Boland

The Deputy's question would appear to refer to the lands of Carrowmoneen, Toghermore and Togher in the occupation of Mrs. Ethel Burke-Henry. The Land Commission propose to have enquiries made as soon as possible in connection with these lands.

Is the Minister aware that two years ago I made representations to the Land Commission in connection with the acquisition of those lands? Now, we are told that the Land Commission are about to consider what they propose to do in connection with them.

Mr. Boland

As I said yesterday, when replying on the Estimate for my Department, the County Galway has got a very fair share of the total amount of land that has been divided in the country. Every estate in the country cannot be acquired and divided at the one time. The Deputy must be aware that it takes time to deal with these matters.
