Vol. 66 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Work Regulations.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what regulations are in force governing the employment of men on the north coast road, in the barony of Erris, County Mayo; whether he is aware that a number of men are restricted to stone-breaking at a wage of 2/- per day, while others are constantly employed at 5/- per day at quarry work, and whether he is prepared to modify the regulations so as to secure that all the men employed will be given equal turns at the better paid work.

As regards the first part of the question, the regulations in force are the standard regulations applying to employment schemes on roads. As regards the second part of the question, I am not aware that men are employed on stone-breaking at a daily rate of wages. As regards the last part of the question, I am not aware of any necessity for a modification of the regulations.
