Vol. 66 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Settlement.

asked the Minister for Lands if his attention has been called to a resolution passed at a meeting of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions of the South Tipperary Brigade Old I.R.A. held at Kilfeacle, County Tipperary, alleging that a hostile element within the Land Commission was deliberately endeavouring to obstruct the Government's declared policy of settling suitable Old I.R.A. men on the land; whether he has instituted an inquiry into the allegation, and with what result; and, if not, if he will state what action he intends to take in the matter.

Mr. Boland

I am aware of the resolution to which the Deputy refers. I am also aware that the statement in the resolution reflecting on the impartiality and loyalty of the staff of the Land Commission is without foundation in fact, and I do not propose to take any action in the matter. The claims of suitable Old I.R.A. men are always favourably considered by the Land Commission in the allotment of untenanted land.
