Vol. 67 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the names, addresses and amount of pension awarded to residents in County Wexford under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.

The list is being prepared and will be sent to the Deputy in a few days.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the procedure adopted and the order of preference, if any, given to applicants called before the Military Service Pensions Board under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934; whether the domestic circumstances of applicants are taken into consideration, or whether applicants are being called up in accordance with recommendations submitted by outside organisations of a political or semi-political character.

For the details of the procedure in dealing with applications for military service pensions, I would refer the Deputy to the Statutory Rules No. 354 of 1934, No. 70 of 1935, No. 71 of 1935, No. 61 of 1936, No. 165 of 1936. The answer to the second part of the Deputy's question is that the calling of applicants is a matter for the referee, and every effort is made to deal as quickly as possible with applicants who are in bad circumstances. The answer to the latter portion of the Deputy's question is in the negative.

Mr. Hogan

Is the Minister aware that a number of applicants for military service pensions are either unemployed or casually employed? If a list is given to him of the unemployed or casually employed applicants, will he make an effort to see that they get priority in consideration?

The answer refers to that. Anybody who is in bad circumstances will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Mr. Hogan

That is not happening now.

It will happen as far as the referee is concerned.
