Vol. 67 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will now state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Irish Land Commission to provide economic holdings for ten tenants on the Ward estate, Kilscoghagh, Scardane, Claremorris, whose valuations are under £5 each, and if he will state when Mellett's farm, known as Gortanieran, which was retained for the relief of congestion in 1923 by the Irish Land Commission, will be divided.

I have nothing to add at present to the reply given to the Deputy's previous question in regard to this matter on the 25th November last. The general question of procedure in cases where resumption is opposed by the tenant is engaging the attention of the Land Commission.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that acute congestion exists in the electoral divisions of Ballindine, Claremorris, Caraun, Crossboyne and Kilvine and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Irish Land Commission to acquire the Castlemacgarrett demesne lands, which have been let in grazing for the past 20 years for the relief of such congestion.

Mr. Boland

Since the date of the Deputy's last question on 27th March, 1935, in regard to the Castlemacgarrett demesne, further inquiries have been made as to the user of these lands, and after due consideration the Land Commission decided to take no action for acquisition.
