Vol. 68 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Turbary (County Galway).

Mr. Brodrick

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have made arrangements with the Turf Development Board for the development of the turbary on the Baggot, Mulry and Clancy estates in the townlands of Triehill and Islandcase between Ballygar and Ballyforan, County Galway, and, if so, when work on drainage and roads will be commenced.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have approved of a scheme for the development of the bog in the townlands of Triehill East and Triehill West. Drainage and road works were commenced during the spring in these townlands but had to be abandoned owing to bad weather. They will be continued this month. The Turf Development Board has not so far operated in these townlands, but their local inspector is aware of the work which the Land Commission propose to carry out.

Mr. Brodrick

Can the Minister give us any idea as to when work will be started, seeing the large amount of unemployment there is in this particular district?

Mr. Boland

My information is that it will be continued this month.
