Second Stage?
Public Business. - Agricultural Produce (Cereals) (Amendment) Bill, 1937—First Stage.
This day week.
I thought we were not going to sit this day week.
Then it will not be taken.
Perhaps the Vice-President would make it clear. We understood from the Chief Whip of the Government Party that it was not proposed to sit next week.
It all depends on what we get through this week.
But there is a date wanted for this Bill.
We ought to know where we are. I understand that a proposal came from the Government Chief Whip that he intended to approach all Parties in the House with a view to arranging that there would be no sitting next week. Our reply was that so far as we were concerned, if that was the Government's convenience, we would not object. Now we are told we are going to sit next week. We do not care whether we are or not. All we want to know is: Are we going to sit next week or not, and, if so, what is the business going to be next Wednesday?
That business can all be arranged in the course of the day, or the next few days. This is really a matter to be discussed outside the House.
I want to know are we going to sit next Wednesday?
We shall have to decide that on Friday.
I understood that it had been decided with the Whips. Now I understand from the Government Front Bench that it is not decided.
The Bill will be circulated at once.
