Vol. 69 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the water supply at Finglas, County Dublin, is inadequate and generally unsatisfactory, and if he will state what steps he proposes taking to obtain a decent water supply for Finglas.

I am aware of the need for an improved water supply for Finglas. Some time ago my Department made representations to the Dublin Corporation as to the feasibility of a supply being obtained from the city mains and an arrangement was subsequently reached between the corporation and the board of health to supply a certain specified quantity of water for this area. The responsibility for preparing a scheme for the distribution of the water in Finglas is one for the Dublin Board of Health. The board were pressed to expedite the submission of such a scheme. Plans were submitted on the 1st July last. They were returned by my Department on the 28th July with recommendations for certain amendments of the documents. Since that date the board of health have been repeatedly urged to expedite the submission of amended documents but so far these documents have not been received. The supply from the city mains will be limited to 20,000 gallons a day, and this quantity will have to suffice until the Poulaphouca scheme is in operation.
