There are two amendments on the Order Paper.
Control of Prices (No. 2) Bill, 1937—Report Stage.
I move amendment No. 1:—
In page 15, line 23, Section 39 (2), to delete the words "under this section."
This is purely a drafting amendment. The words were considered to be unnecessary in the section, and their deletion does not alter its meaning.
I move amendment No. 2:—
In page 15, before Section 39 (5) to insert a new sub-section as follows:—
"The commission may request the Controller to amend, in such manner as they may think fit, or revoke a price certificate and the Controller shall comply with any such request."
The object of this amendment is to meet the point raised by Deputy Dockrell on the Committee Stage. The purpose of the amendment is to give the commission power to require the Controller to amend or revoke a price certificate when the commission thinks that such action should follow.
I should like to take the Fifth Stage to-morrow, Sir.
The Fifth Stage to-morrow?
Yes.
Why does the Minister want it so quickly?
Because I think it is urgent that the Bill should pass.
Does the Minister think that he will want to make any more amendments?
No, I do not think so.
