Vol. 69 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps are being taken to rearrange the holdings on the Carter, Bingham, Coyne and Murphy estates situate in the barony of Erris, County Mayo.

Mr. Boland

The question appears to refer to the estates of V.A.T. Shaen Carter, (Record No. S.1879), Denis G. B. Bingham (Record No. S.3626), Sarah Coyne (Record No. S.5215) and W.G. Murphy (Record No. S.5423), all of which have been vested in the Land Commission under Section 9 of the Land Act, 1931.

Arrangements will be made as soon as circumstances permit for the inspection of the Bingham, Coyne and Murphy estates with a view to carrying out a rearrangement of the holdings and any other necessary improvements. One townland (Leam) on the Bingham estate has recently been rearranged.

As regards the Shaen Carter estate all the holdings comprising the tenanted portion thereof have been retained for rearrangement. The work of examining this large estate is being taken in hand in six sections and measures necessary to ameliorate the existing circumstances of the tenants will be duly considered.
