Vol. 69 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - General Election Expenses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state the total number of presiding officers and poll clerks employed at the 1937 General Election; the total all-in cost of the election, including fees to returning officers, presiding officers, poll clerks, and all others employed; the cost of printing and forwarding instructions to registrars, and any other costs involved.

Examination of the accounts of returning officers in connection with the general election is in progress, but as some of these accounts have not yet been furnished it is not possible to supply the information requested in the first and second parts of the question. As regards the third part of the question no printed instructions were sent to registrars by my Department and the cost of sending any instructions sent to them would form part of the ordinary administrative expenses of the Department and is not separately calculated.
