Vol. 69 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Distress in Cavan.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that there is widespread distress and unemployment in Bawnboy rural district, many of those affected not being registered, and if he will state what steps are being taken to relieve the distress, and how many minor relief schemes are in operation there.

I am not aware that any exceptional distress or unemployment exists in Bawnboy rural district. A proportionate grant has been made from the Vote for schemes for the provision of employment and relief of distress in respect of the unemployment requirements of the area.

Lists of sanctioned schemes containing nine separate works for the Bawnboy rural district have been issued on various dates since 29th September last, and of these three have been started. It is hoped to have the remainder put in hands at an early date.
