Vol. 69 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Clare Lands for Forestry.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Forestry Department in the acquisition and utilisation of the lands of Gregg, Derryoran and Ballyhinch, near Whitegate, County Clare.

Mr. Boland

The inspection of certain lands offered for forestry purposes near Whitegate, County Clare, has been completed and though the lands are mainly of a poor quality for afforestation, with a considerable proportion unplantable, it is proposed to open negotiations with four owners for the purchase of 260 acres in the townlands of Cregg and Ballyhinch. In the event of these negotiations being successful, consideration will be given later to other lands offered in the district.
