Vol. 69 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis Public Utility Society.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state if and when and for what reasons he suspended payment of grants to the Laoighis Public Utility Society for the erection or reconstruction of houses, and whether he can arrange to sanction payment in the very large number of outstanding cases to the applicants direct, or what other action, if any, he has taken or proposes taking for the purpose of enabling deserving applicants to get the benefit of such grants as are available under the Housing Act.

Payment of grants to the Laoighis Public Utility Society was deferred on 15th April, 1937, as the Society had failed to furnish the Registrar of Friendly Societies with certain statutory returns under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act. On the 29th November the Department was informed by the Registrar of Friendly Societies that the statutory returns have now been submitted by the society. Payment of grants to the public utility society will be resumed.
