Vol. 69 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blind Persons' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has now reached a decision to introduce proposals for legislation for the purpose of amending the law relating to the payment of blind persons' pensions so as to ensure that when calculating the rate of pension in each such case, grants made to blind persons under local welfare schemes will not be taken into account.

The matter is still under consideration.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say how long the matter has now been under consideration?

For a considerable time.

Well, in view of the fact that blind persons are suffering grievous hardships as a result of the delay on the part of the Department, will the Minister undertake to take some steps to expedite this matter?

The Department fully appreciates the position, and the matter is receiving consideration.

Well, I am afraid I shall have to ask the question again next week.
