Vol. 69 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mercy Hospital, Cork.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if the application for a grant from the Hospital Sweepstake funds for the necessary improvements proposed to be carried out at the Mercy Hospital, Cork, has been acceded to, and if he is aware of the large number of patients treated at this hospital and the urgency of the work contemplated, and if he will state if any conditions are attached to the making of the grant, and, if so, what these conditions are.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. A grant of £15,228 10s. 0d.:— was notified on 31st July, 1937. An application for an increase in the grant was subsequently received and is still under investigation. As regards the second part of the question, I am prepared to allow the improvements to be carried out when certain amendments of the plans suggested to the hospital authorities are provided for and the conditions agreed to. As regards the last part of the question I will send the Deputy a copy of the letter sent to the hospital on the 31st July, 1937, which sets out the conditions of the grant.
