Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Children.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will indicate the local authorities which have in force by-laws made under the Employment of Children Act, 1903; whether in respect of such local authorities he will state (distinguishing between boys and girls) (a) the age below which employment is illegal; (b) the hours between which employment is illegal; (c) the number of daily and weekly hours beyond which employment is illegal; and (d) the occupations in respect of which the employment of children is (1) absolutely prohibited and (2) permitted subject to conditions.

The information asked for will be furnished in the form of a tabular statement, which will be published in the Official Reports.

Following is the statement.

By-laws under Section 2 of the Employment of Children Act, 1903, with respect to street trading by persons under the age of 16 years have been made by four local authorities. The following table gives particulars of those by-laws:—

Fourteen years or such higher age as is fixed by law as the age up to which attendance at school is compulsory.
