Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appeals Under Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of appeals under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act under consideration at November 1st and at December 1st, 1937, and the number of appeals decided in each of these months and further, whether he will state the number of appeals still pending.

The number of appeals under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, 1935-37, under consideration on 1st November, 1937, was 1,441. Included in this number were 234 cases where new facts were disclosed in the grounds of appeal which made it possible to give decisions favourable to the applicants without submission to referees. During the month of November 89 cases were decided.

The number of appeals under consideration at 1st December, 1937, was 1,419. During the month of December, 194 appeals were decided. On 28th January, 1938, there were 1,231 appeals still pending.
