Vol. 70 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreigners in Business in Éire.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a large number of foreigners are opening business premises in Éire under assumed names, or nominally using Irish citizens for the purpose of conducting such businesses, and, if so, what steps, if any, he proposes taking to prevent the extension of this practice.

The Registration of Business Names Act, 1916, requires that where a business is being conducted under a name other than the true name of the proprietor, the true name must be disclosed. The Act provides penalties for any evasion of this obligation, and I shall be glad if the Deputy will let me have particulars of any specific cases in which he may be aware that the provisions of the Act are not being observed.

Might I ask if a foreigner comes here is there any difficulty in his changing his name? Can he not do so at will?
