Vol. 70 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford-Tramore Railway.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the Waterford-Tramore Railway is about to be closed down, or alternatively, that the services are to be seriously restricted; that such closing down or restriction will adversely affect Tramore and will be a serious inconvenience to Waterford City parents who like to take their children for day trips to the seaside, and if he will have enquiries made with a view to averting any drastic changes.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. No application by the railway company for the discontinuance or reduction of the train service from Waterford to Tramore is at present before me. Under the Railways Act, 1933, the railway company must have given notice of the establishment or intention to establish adequate substitute road transport services before any order for the discontinuance or reduction of train services can be made.
