Vol. 70 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Nationals serving under Non-Intervention Pact.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state (1) how many Irish nationals are at present serving under the Non-Intervention Pact in connection with the war in Spain; and (2) if he has any information as to where these nationals are serving and their rates of pay.

Eleven Irish nationals are at present serving under the International Board for NonIntervention in Spain, four under the Land Observation Scheme and seven under the Sea Observation Scheme. The rate of pay of those employed under the Land Observation Scheme is in each case £450 per annum. Of the seven Irish nationals employed under the Sea Observation Scheme, one is receiving £1,200 per annum, one £650 per annum and the remaining five £450 per annum.

The location of service of these officers which, it is understood, varies according to requirements, is a matter for the International Board for NonIntervention in Spain whose employees they are.

In each of the cases mentioned are the sums inclusive of everything?

They are inclusive.
