Vol. 70 No. 7

Written Answers. - Forestry Scheme Wages.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are 13 workers with 48 dependents working on the Cootehill forestry scheme at 24/- per week, and that this amount is not adequate to provide for their families under the present cost of living conditions; and if he will take steps to bring their pay more into line with their needs and also more in line with the pay on other public works in County Cavan such as those under the county council, urban councils, and even the Bailieborough forestry scheme where the rates are considerably higher.

Mr. Boland

The rate of wages paid to forestry workers at Cootehill was fixed in relation to the existing rate of wages paid to agricultural workers in the district and the question of revising the rate for Cootehill is at present under consideration.
