Vol. 70 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blind Persons' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is now in a position to state if the discussions regarding blind persons' pensions which were in progress in November last between the Department of Local Government and Public Health and the Department of Finance are likely in the near future to eventuate in proposals for legislation which will ensure that in calculating the rate of pensions grants made to blind persons under local welfare schemes will not be taken into account; and, further, whether he is in a position to say when these proposals are likely to be introduced in the Dáil.

This matter is still under consideration and I am accordingly not yet in a position to say whether and when legislation on the subject will be introduced.

Can the Minister say, even approximately, when a decision is likely to be arrived at?

I should say within the next month or six weeks.
