Vol. 70 No. 9

Committee on Finance. - Vote 12—State Laboratory.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £5,300 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1939, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí na Saotharlainne Stáit.

That a sum not exceeding £5,300 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1939, for the Salaries and Expenses of the State Laboratory.

There is an increase here of £250 out of a total of £7,950, and it is accounted for purely and simply by a slight increase in salaries and the bonus on cost of living.

Could the Minister explain how the State chemist gets £600 this year as against £786 last year?

A vacancy existed, and the salary for the post has been revised. There was a revision of the scales. The present scale is £600 to £800.

Does the same person occupy the position?

No; it is vacant, and the new man will come in at £600 and go up to £800.

Vote put and agreed to.
