Vol. 72 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tredennick Estate Turbary (Roscommon).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if the Land Commission took over in 1925 the turbary on the Tredennick estate at Rooskey, County Roscommon; if the users of the turbary continued to use their turfbanks under the impression that they would be eventually allocated; whether he is aware that the landlords' representatives instituted proceedings last year for the recovery of rents due, and got court decrees for varying amounts; and if he will now state if these rents accrued during a period in which the Land Commission was in possession; and, if so, why the Land Commission did not take any steps to safeguard the interests of these people; and if the turbary in question is the property of the Land Commission whether he is in a position to estimate when subdivision will take place.

The Land Commission have not acquired the turbary on the Tredennick Estate and are not in possession, but they have had the bog inspected and have decided to institute proceedings for its acquisition as untenanted land. In the meantime they are not in a position to take any steps in connection with the collection of bog rents by the owner, who has obtained a court decree in respect thereof.
