Vol. 72 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carrick Slate Quarries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make available to members of the Dáil copies of all the reports received by him from his advisers in relation to Carrick-on-Suir slate quarries.

It is not the general practice to make public reports submitted to me by my advisers. I do not propose to vary the practice in this case.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, might I ask if the Minister is prepared to alter his decision and allow me to see the report in which the statement made by the Minister on July 7th was made—will he allow me to see it privately?

I do not think it is in the public interest that reports submitted to a Minister by his advisers should be available to anybody.

Would the Minister give the House the report on which the statement referred to was made?

What statement?

The statement the Minister made on July 7th.

That related to a period of ten years.

I cannot even get the date of it.

I do not even know what report the Deputy is talking about.

On account of the unsatisfactory reply by the Minister, I propose to raise this matter on the adjournment.

The Chair will consider that and inform the Deputy.
