Vol. 72 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Beef—Withheld Payments.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total amount of payments withheld from proprietors of victualling premises in respect of claims for free beef supplied during the half-year periods ending 30th June, 1935, 31st December, 1935, 30th June, 1936, and 31st December, 1936, and the reason for withholding these payments.

The accounts have not been kept in a form which would enable the desired particulars to be supplied. The information would have to be specially extracted and its compilation would involve an amount of trouble and expense that I consider would not be justified. In respect of the full period covered by the scheme claims amounting to £5,368 13s. 5d. have been disallowed because of infringements of the regulations. The principal infringement was the supplying of goods other than beef of the kind and quality prescribed, i.e., beef obtained from a first quality bullock or maiden heifer not more than four years old.
