Vol. 73 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Northern Government and Irish Citizens.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether, in his recent conversations with the British Prime Minister, he drew attention to the action of the Government of Northern Ireland in preventing citizens of Eire entering particular portions of Eire; and, if so, whether he will indicate if any assurances were given in the matter by the Head of the British Government.

I can only assure the Deputy that all appropriate steps have been and will be taken in the matter to which his queries relate.

Would the Minister amplify that statement by indicating whether every well-conducted citizen of Éire is free to move about without molestation, or without his actions being subjected to restrictions by a Government which, under our Constitution, has no legal right to interfere with citizens of Éire?

Unfortunately, as the Deputy is aware, our jurisdiction is not effective over that area.
