Vol. 73 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Pigs and Bacon Act, 1935.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will exercise his power, under Section 127 (1) of the Pigs and Bacon Act, 1935, to make an order enabling organised pig producers to elect their own representatives on the Pigs Marketing Board in the election year 1939.

Proposals for the amendment of the Pigs and Bacon Acts are at present under consideration. These proposals will involve legislation which cannot be brought into effect until next year. As, however, the period of office of the existing Pigs Marketing Board will in the ordinary course expire on 10th January next, I intend to introduce at an early date a short Bill which will enable that board and also the Bacon Marketing Board as at present constituted to continue in office pending the passage of legislation giving effect to the proposals to which I have referred.

Are we beginning to see the dawn?

Is the Deputy back?

I am sure that will be very welcome to the Minister.
