Vol. 73 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Millers in Eire.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total quantity (in barrels of 280 lb.) of millable wheat received by flour mills in Éire from Irish farmers during the cereal year ending 1st August, 1938, and what was the aggregate amount of cash received from the Irish millers for such wheat.

The cereal year, as defined by the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Acts, ends on 31st August, not on 1st August as mentioned in the Deputy's question. In the cereal year ended 31st August, 1938, the total quantity of home-grown millable wheat purchased by flour millers amounted to approximately 1,075,000 barrels and the aggregate sum paid to growers in respect of that wheat amounted to, approximately, £1,500,000.
