Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Flats.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

264 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he is totally committed to endorsing the previous Government's decision to allocate approximately £180 million for the demolition of the Ballymun flats, Dublin 11, and their replacement by good quality low-rise housing; if he will ensure that this project will be completed in the shortest possible time, that is, within an eight year period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17987/97]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 33 of 14 October 1997 which outlines the current position in relation to the redevelopment of the Ballymun estate. The project, estimated to cost £179 million, 1996 prices, over an eight year period, is to be carried out within the context of an overall strategic plan for Ballymun on the preparation of which work has commenced by Ballymun Regeneration Limited.
