Vol. 73 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Road.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received representations from the County Monaghan Committee of Agriculture to the effect that the Carrickmacross-Culloville-Crossmaglen road should be made an approved road for the conveyance of live stock and general traffic on the first Friday of each month; and, if so, whether he would favourably consider this proposal with a view to accommodating the local people.

The representations to which the Deputy refers have been received and the agreement of the appropriate British authorities to the proposal, in so far as it affects the export of cattle, is being sought. It is not proposed to approve the road for general traffic.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I take it that, contingent on an agreement being reached with the British Revenue authorities, the road will be approved for the normal requirements of fair business.

For the export of cattle, yes.
