Vol. 74 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyragget Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what is the present position of the proposed scheme for a water supply in Ballyragget, County Kilkenny; and, whether he is aware that proposals concerning this scheme have now been under consideration for a period of six or seven years.

The present position as regards the proposed waterworks scheme for Ballyragget, so far as my Department is concerned, is that proposals submitted in December, 1937, were referred back to the local authority for further consideration on the 5th January, 1938. No revised proposals have since been submitted.

Does the Minister propose to ask his Department to do anything in the matter? The county medical officer recently informed the commissioner who is administering the affairs of the county that the new houses just finished at Ballyragget cannot be occupied until this water scheme is provided.

The matter is one for the local authority primarily.

The Minister's Department is often very severe on a local authority in regard to questions like a small increase in expenditure.

We often try to hurry them up. As far as that goes, we will do our best in this case. In fact, we have already done it.

Will the Minister undertake to have anything done in the matter now?

We have already taken all the steps we can.
