Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will present a return showing (a) the number of national schools conducted by members of religious orders, with the numbers of pupils enrolled therein, for the years ending 30th June, 1927, and 30th June, 1938, respectively; (b) the number of schools previously staffed entirely by lay teachers which came under the control of religious orders during the period from June, 1927, to June, 1938; (c) the number of newly built schools which have come under the Department since 30th June, 1927, which are (1) conducted by religious orders; (2) staffed entirely by lay teachers; (d) the number of new schools now in course of erection which will, when completed, be conducted (1) by members of religious orders; (2) by lay teachers; (e) total number of members of religious orders engaged as teachers in national schools and the number of such teachers who are recognised as fully trained in accordance with the Department's regulations; and (f) the number of members of religious communities and lay students respectively at present undergoing a course of training.

It has not been found possible to complete the required returns in time, but the information will be forwarded to the Deputy at the earliest possible date.
