Vol. 74 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claremorris Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will now state what steps, if any, are being taken to relieve the acute congestion existing on the Ward estate, in the townland of Kilscohagh, Scardane, Claremorris, County Mayo.

The position regarding proceedings for the resumption of portion of the holding of Mark Mellett, in the townlands of Gortanieran and Kilscohagh, on the Ward estate, for the purpose of relieving congestion, was explained to the Deputy in reply to his previous question of 23rd November last. The tenant, Mark Mellett, is dead, and has been succeeded by Joseph Patrick Mellett. It is now proposed to discontinue proceedings for the resumption of a portion of the holding in Gortanieran townland, and to institute proceedings for the resumption of a portion of the holding in Kilscohagh townland, and a notice of the intention of the Land Commission to do so will be published at an early date. It is also proposed to institute proceedings for resumption of two other holdings on the estate—one in Kilscohagh townland and one in Gortanieran townland, and notices of the intention of the Land Commission to resume will be published in these two cases as soon as possible.
