Vol. 75 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscrea Water Rental.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that Tipperary North Riding Board of Health indicated to the residents of Roscrea its intention to increase the water rental in such a manner as would create an average increase of about 400 per cent. on the consumers; and, if so, if he will state whether this proposed increase was sanctioned by him.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part, the Minister's approval is not required to the fixing of water rents.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that in this particular area, with which I am sure he is well acquainted, a lot of discontent has been caused over this matter of water rents? Is he further aware that the capital sum to pay off the cost of the present water supply will expire in two years' time? Will the Parliamentary Secretary indicate that there will be no increase until the people of Roscrea get a decent water supply?

The Minister has no function in the matter.

I am sorry, but I cannot understand that.

When the Deputy reads the reply he will understand it.
