Vol. 75 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Attendance.

asked the Minister for Justice if he received a communication from Mr. P.J. Ryan, N.T., Tiercahan National School, on the 19th January, 1938, drawing his attention to the irregular attendance at school of a certain child who is not yet 14 years of age; if he is aware that this child has not put in' a single attendance at school since 16th March, 1938, and was then enrolled only in the fourth standard; and if, in consideration of these facts, he will give appropriate instructions to the local Gárda officer in charge of school attendance in the area.

I did receive a communication from Mr. P.J. Ryan relating to the irregular attendance of the child named Thomas McGuire.

The father of the child was prosecuted under the School Attendance Act, 1926, in June, 1938, and January, 1939, and I understand that he has again been summoned to the District Court to be held at Ballyconnell, County Cavan, on the 16th of May.
