Vol. 76 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boot Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that boot factories are finding it exceedingly difficult to secure regular orders from their customers owing to the belief that quotas and import restrictions will soon be removed as per the London Agreement; also, that travellers representing English houses are suggesting the possibility of more favourable conditions in the near future; and, if so, if he can reassure the trade in this matter by making a general statement on the position.

I have not had any recent representations of the nature referred to by the Deputy. The boot and shoe industry is under review by the Prices Commission and I am not at present in a position to give an indication of the date when I may expect to receive the commission's recommendations.
