The net quantity of home-refined sugar on which excise duty was paid was 1,741,194 cwts. in the year ended 31st March, 1938, and 1,066,184 cwts. in the year ended 31st March, 1939. The net duty paid was £113,752 in the year ended 31st March, 1938, and £62,196 in the year ended 31st March, 1939.
