Vol. 76 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Manufacturing Firms' Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will require the Prices Commission to investigate the prices charged for bacon, including hams and gammons, by firms manufacturing or producing such commodity in Éire with special reference to the year 1938; and whether he will indicate, as a supplement to the report (P. No. 3472) already published, if combination for interference with trade competition in the bacon industry still continues, and the extent of the excessive profits taken by curers in that year; and whether the curers comprising the Pigs Marketing Board are still utilising their powers so as to promote curers' interests.

The answer is in the negative. Proposals for legislation to amend the Pigs and Bacon Acts are under consideration and will be introduced by the Minister for Agriculture.
