Vol. 76 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Consumers in Eire.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has caused any examination to be made as to the amounts levied off bacon consumers in Éire between January, 1936, and March, 1938, by the action of the Bacon Marketing Board in fixing minimum prices for bacon in this period; and whether he has any proposals to make as to penalising the curers in the board for this action and recovering the said amounts for the benefit of the public.

The matters referred to in the Deputy's question are at present the subject of investigation.

Will the investigation of the matters here referred to be completed before the Minister brings to the attention of the House the terms of the new Bacon Bill, and will the Bill be drafted in the light of the findings of this inquiry?

We hope so, anyway.
