Vol. 76 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Foreshore.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reason for an order made by him prohibiting the removal of material from the foreshore north and south of Cahore Point, County Wexford; whether he is aware that this order is causing great hardship in the locality, as it has been an established custom for people living within six miles of the shore to draw material from this beach; whether any of the persons likely to be affected by the order were notified of the intention to make it; and whether the Minister is prepared to receive evidence from persons so affected with a view to considering the rescission or amendment of this order.

I have made no order prohibiting the removal of beach material from the foreshore mentioned in the first part of the question. The other parts of the question do not, therefore, arise. The question probably owes its origin to the steps recently taken to bring the provisions of the Foreshore Act, 1933, to the notice of persons, found removing beach material without the authority of a licence granted under that Act.
