Vol. 76 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Tax Assessments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the amount of income-tax held in assessment under each schedule of the Income-Tax Acts at the beginning of the financial year 1934-35; the amount of tax first assessed during the currency of that year under each schedule; the amount of tax collected under each schedule in the said year; the amounts written off as irrecoverable or otherwise discharged from assessment during the year and the balance of tax held in assessment under each schedule at the end of the said financial year 1934-35; (b) the same and like particulars for each of the subsequent years 1935-36, 1936-37, 1937-38 and 1938-39.

Income-tax statistics are not compiled in such a form as to enable the information in question to be given and I regret to have to inform the Deputy that it would not be possible to obtain such information.
