Vol. 77 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division in Louth.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that no effort is being made to carry out land division in South Louth, and if he is further aware that as much as £18 per acre is being paid for conacre tillage in this district to absentee landlords.

During the last three years the Land Commission have divided in the southern portion of County Louth some 816 acres of untenanted land among 54 allottees. They have at present in hands for division some 565 acres in that portion, and proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of a further area of 758 acres comprised in eight estates in the district.

In proportion to the comparatively limited area of untenanted lands suitable and available for acquisition and division in County Louth, these proceedings of the Land Commission appear not unsatisfactory.
