Written Answers. - The Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the total amount already paid up to the latest date for which figures are available and covering salaries, wages, travelling and subsistence allowances to members, officers and servants of (1) the Army Pensions Board; (2) Military Service Registration Board; (3) Referee and Advisory Committees; (4) applicants and witnesses summoned before such bodies since the coming into operation of the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.

The following is a statement showing particulars of the expenditure on salaries, wages and allowances, and travelling and subsistence allowances to members, officers and servants of (1) the Army Pensions Board; (2) Military Service Registration Board; (3) referee and advisory committee; (4) expenses of applicants and witnesses summoned before these bodies.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (1) the total number of applications received for pension under the Military Service Pensions Act,1934; (2) the number of applicants interviewed by the board or referee up to October 31st, 1939; (3) the number of pensions sanctioned up. to the same date; and (4) the number of applications already rejected; whether it is intended to interview all applicants; and, if so, whether he will expedite this work; and also whether he can now state when investigation of such applications is likely to be concluded.

The desired particulars are as follows:—

(1) The number of applications received under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934

It is not intended to interview all applicants. The disposal of all applications is being effected as expeditiously as possible, but it is not possible to state when the investigation of the applications is likely to be concluded.
