Vol. 78 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demobilised Officers.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that a number of officers called from the reserve for permanent service with the regular Army and subsequently demobilised have failed to secure reinstatement in their former civilian employment; that these men are now out of work and unable to obtain new employment; and whether in the circumstances he proposes to provide compensation for men so circumstanced.

Representations have already been made to employers in any cases which have been brought to my attention.

As I have previously informed the House, I am prepared to make representations to employers concerned whenever a specific case of loss of employment consequential on Army service is brought to my notice.

The answer to the latter part of the Deputy's question is in the negative.
